“I was homeless for a total of four years. I moved through different hostels and shelters, but due to my medical conditions I could not do the physical labor they required, so I always got kicked out. I got my dog Garth one year ago. I spent this year on the streets, because having Garth made it harder to stay at places… but Garth really helps me. Having a service dog keeps me functional. It keeps me sane. The fact that (SVO) allows me to not spend half of my Social Security check on veterinary care really helps. I like the fact that you guys are making efforts to come out every single week, you are mobile, and you have a network to refer people to (for additional human services).”

“Jerome and I are from Spokane, but after his home was lost to the court system we moved to Seattle. That was six years ago, and we are still homeless. Having no home is difficult in the winter. It’s getting way harder with the weather. We stay at the park… like, on the table. But it’s okay though, because we got little blankets and they let us use the fire pit to stay warm. We got our dog Mister from a litter of puppies. He’s nineteen months old. Having a dog is hard, especially since we have to keep track of him and all of our stuff at the same time. Mister is like my kid. I love him. You guys (SVO) were great. I have a hard time with people and new environments. The community makes it hard for us, people are very judgmental. Your group is not. I feel comfortable here. ”

“Being homeless can bring you many problems, but when the one closest to you gets sick, in this case it [is] my dog Baby, I was overwhelmed by fear and frustration at my inability to get help for her. Out of the darkness Dr. Hanna and Carrie came into our lives and gave a gift more valuable than money or power they gave love and treatment to my sick 'Baby' girl and restored my faith in the world in a way that words cannot express. Thank [you] from the bottom of my heart."

“We have been homeless for three years. When we lost our home, we had four special needs cats that lived with us since they were very young. Not being sure how we were going to meet our needs, let alone our four cats. It truly was a miracle when we were blessed with that loving attention of [SVO]. Cancer, diabetes, seizures, and common care of food (even special diet), veterinary attention has made the difference. We couldn't have done it without you. And there is no way to explain or show our gratefulness. Endless love, Steve, Janice, Bogo, Cleo, Jr and our dearly departed, Skylar.”
